Yá’át’ééh (hello) from Navajo Nation!

Canyon De Chelly National Monument is entirely inside Diné Bikéyah (Navaho Nation). You can only enter the canyon with a Navajo guide.

Like many traditional Navajo, our guide does not allow himself to be photographed, but here is the rest of the crew who descended into Canyon del Muerto today.

We took the ancient Bare Rock Trail down, including the hand-carved portion known as the Moqui steps, which were already long abandoned by the Ancestral Puebloans when the Navajo arrived around 1400 CE.
