Came upon a breeding pair of ‘Alae ‘Ula, with their nest of hatchlings, at the Waimea Botanical Gardens on Oahu.
Due to habitat loss and the proliferation of predators which have been introduced to Hawaii, there are estimated to be only 1000 of these birds left on earth. Their numbers are slowly increasingly, but constant efforts are required to protect the ‘Alae ‘Ula from extinction.
It was an incredible privilege to see and photograph some of these rare Hawaiian birds.
