Buteo Jamaicensis
The red tailed hawk is an old friend, and at home nearly anywhere. I’ve spotted her perching on fence posts along the fields and pasturelands of my youth, maneuvering between green branches in the Shawnee forests of my young adulthood, hunting beside the interstates through thousands of miles of prairie on countless road trips, and now on the golden hills of California in my middle age.
