“‘To strive — to seek — to find — and not to yield’ caught my fancy as I sat before the fire with a volume of Tennyson’s poems opened to ‘Ulysses.’” – Richard Halliburton .

My wife gifted me this vintage copy of ‘The Glorious Adventure’ by Halliburton, and it’s the perfect book to read as we make final preparations to visit Greece in May. In 1927 the travel writer Halliburton decided to retread Odysseus’ journey and visit the great ruins of Greece and locations of the Iliad. His genuine commitment to the goal, and humorous recountings of scrambling up Mt Olympus while facing Zeus’ fury, sneaking into the acropolis after dark, and hailing a taxi to finish Pheidippides’ marathon are an exuberant, delusional joy to read.
