Long-lived institutions give the illusion of immortality. Universities seemingly exist outside of time.
It seems as if they will always be there, quietly existing where you left them.
Southern Illinois University has fallen from great heights since I was there in the early 00’s, but you wouldn’t know it to walk the campus. Sure, some of the venerable buildings could use a fresh coat of paint, but it’s all still there.
It is nice to come back and see the Saluki statue I helped design loooooong ago during an independent study with the art and design instructor Kay Zikovich. I did some of the early sketches and compositional poses for the salukis. I’ll post them if I can scrounge them up when I get home.
