“We are devastated to report that Big Basin State Park, as we have known it, loved it, and cherished it for generations, is gone.” – Sempervirens Fund

This is absolutely horrible news coming out of the Santa Cruz fires today. Big Basin was a special place for us. We made it an annual tradition as a family to camp at Wastahi Campground every summer since we moved to California.
Big Basin was an extraordinary, soul restoring place. An oasis from the relentless busyness of Silicon Valley.
Yes many of the gentle giants of the forest will survive, yes trees aren’t people, yes buildings can be rebuilt.
But this place was a cathedral. An irreplaceable masterpiece.
