Spent the weekend in the High Sierras at Lake Tahoe (mostly on the west shore) exploring and relaxing. At an elevation of 6,225 ft above sea level, Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America, and the 6th largest lake in the United States behind the five Great Lakes (by volume).
This shot is of beautiful Emerald Bay, which narrowly escaped becoming the private estate of the ultra-rich.
The Bay, along with its charming island (the only island in Lake Tahoe), became part of the California State Park system in 1953. This is a fascinating corner of Lake Tahoe, and the scenery is breathtaking.
